Union County Health Foundation Clinic Sites Earn Quality Award from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield

Union County Health Foundation clinics sites in Alcester and Elk Point, SD, recently received awards for its successful participation in the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Collaboration on Quality® 2010 Primary Care Program. The program, a collaboration between Wellmark and clinicians, is focused on quality and designed to improve Wellmark members' health outcomes through efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective health care delivery.

Using data gathered through Wellmark health care claims and clinicians' medical records, the Collaboration on Quality® program measures clinicians' use of nationally accepted best practices for the treatment of chronic illnesses and preventive care. The program also measures patient outcomes. Data is compared to clinical performance measures.

To qualify for the awards, clinicians must meet or exceed defined measures of care for diabetes, hypertension, asthma, coronary artery disease, and childhood immunizations for patients covered by Wellmark. Additional awards are available for meeting or exceeding defined generic drug prescribing measures.

Clinicians receiving the award are: Peter Murray, PA-C; Noreen O'Shea, DO; Karen Pearson, PA-C, Jeffrey Schild, PA-C. Clinicians at both sites are now participating in the Collaboration on Quality® 2011 Primary Care Program.
